The Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge is one of my favorite locations for photography. The bird photography during the winter migratory season can be among the best places found anywhere. Many opportunities abound along Black Point Wildlife Drive. I got up early one January morning and drove towards the refuge’s visitor information center. Driving a few hundred yards down a hard shell road, pulled over near these mangroves, set up the tripod, and captured this sunrise.
Tip: the government is charging a small fee to drive on Black Point Wildlife Drive but the few dollars is money well spent to preserve and keep open this wonderful location.
