About an hour northwest of Charleston, South Carolina, you will find Francis Beidler Forest which is said to house the largest old-growth stand of bald cypress trees in the world. Park at the Audubon Center and take a walk along the 1.75 mile boardwalk. It can get warm and you might want to take some insect repellant depending upon the time of year you go but the boardwalk is level, shaded and allows you access to some great views. I saw these cypress tree knees and it reminded me of a witch and her coven. Don’t look too hard or you might be captured by her spell! Happy Halloween!
